The X-Men made their comic book debut in 1963 as a group of mutants who were born with superhuman powers and were feared and hated by society for being different from humans.
The inspiration for The X-Men came from the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s and was originally titled The Mutants. Marvel asked editor Stan Lee to change the title because they thought no one would know what the word mutant meant. Professor X and Magneto were both inspired by
